Site Assessment and Investigation Leads to
Government Funding

EnviroSolutions completed a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment, Phase II Site Investigation, and a Baseline Environmental Assessment that led to government “Brownfield” money for remediation activities and site development.

In order to expand operations, EnviroSolutions’ client sought to purchase a neighboring property that had been used as an automobile salvage yard for approximately thirty years. In demonstrating due diligence, the client hired EnviroSolutions to complete assessments of the property. EnviroSolutions determined that the site had been used to store scrap vehicles and salvageable parts, many of which were removed from the vehicles on-site. Soil and groundwater contamination at the site from these operations was anticipated to be gasoline, radiator fluid, motor oil, transmission fluid, and other automobile constituents.

EnviroSolutions proposed collecting soil and/or groundwater samples from areas of concern identified during the Phase I ESA walk-through. The resulting Phase II Site Investigation led to the discovery of contaminated soils at the property. This contamination was used to define the site as a “facility” in a BEA submitted to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

In order to defray the costs of addressing this contamination, EnviroSolutions investigated “Brownfield” redevelopment opportunities. EnviroSolutions determined that the City of Romulus Brownfield Redevelopment Authority, in an effort to promote the redevelopment of environmentally distressed properties, was willing to facilitate the financing of environmental response activities and subsequent property development. As a result, areas of contamination were to be excavated and removed from the site.
